Working Height, Platform Height and Tower Height

Each stairway tower model is listed with three heights. Knowing the difference stops you renting a tower that is too short or paying for one that is too tall.

Platform height

The height of the deck the worker stands on. It ranges from 2.4 m on the IST034 to 16.4 m on the IST174.

Working height

How high a person standing on the platform can comfortably reach. On every model it is 2 m above the platform height.

Tower height

The overall height of the structure, including the guardrails above the platform. On every model it is 1 m above the platform height.

Why a Stairway Tower Instead of a Ladder-Access Tower

Safer climbing

Workers walk up anti-slip stair steps facing forward instead of climbing a vertical ladder, which lowers the risk of slips between levels.

Stairs are easier on crews who go up and down many times a shift, which is common on MEP, HVAC and maintenance jobs.

Stairway Towers on Staircases and in Narrow Hallways

Indian buildings are full of access problems: narrow corridors in heritage buildings, steep staircases in modern duplexes and cramped service shafts in high-rise apartments. Traditional scaffolding is often too bulky for these spaces, and a ladder is unstable for long tasks.

Working on a staircase. The main hurdle on a stair is the lack of a level base, because every foot of the scaffold rests at a different height. Balancing steel pipes on planks or bricks is unsafe. A stairway tower with adjustable legs can be levelled so it stays stable across several steps, and because aluminium is light, the tower can be carried by hand up the very stairs it is meant to service.

Working in a narrow hallway. Standard scaffold frames are typically 1.3 to 1.5 metres wide and will not pass through a 0.9 metre doorway. Our narrow scaffolding is 0.75 metres wide, so it fits through standard doors and can be moved from room to room without dismantling, which suits interior decorators, electrical contractors and HVAC technicians. Integrated internal climbing keeps the worker inside the footprint of the tower, which lowers the risk of tip-over where there is no room for an external ladder.
